Clinical Pilates and Therapeutic Exercise Paired With Massage

WELCOME TO THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

Movement & Massage appointments are like typical massage therapy appointments—just kicked off with a little clinical exercise.

You pick the type, amount, and intensity of movement you want to do, and we guide you through it. Then, we finish with a massage to help you recover.

Sounds pretty dreamy, right? (It’s no wonder these appointments are popular!)

Clinical Pilates vs. Therapeutic Exercise

Both are good for you. Let’s figure out which one is right for you.

Clinical Pilates

By focusing on form and small, controlled movements, Pilates can help improve your posture, strength, and mobility.

Clinical Pilates is done under the supervision of a trained clinician, and it often uses specialized equipment, like our Pilates reformer. We start by assessing you, then show you what to do, and provide one-on-one guidance and feedback throughout your appointment.

Pilates is perfect for you if you want to improve your body awareness and control, athletic performance, or your posture, strength, and alignment overall. It can also be beneficial while rehabilitating an injury or working on re-training the core muscles postpartum!

Therapeutic Exercise

Therapeutic exercise involves supervised and guided strength training and stretching, and takes place in our clinic gym. The goal is to help you move easier while improving your functional mobility!

By utilizing gym equipment under one-on-one supervision, therapeutic exercise helps you work toward goals like retraining your posture and strengthening your muscles without any undue pain.

It’s perfect for you if you want to learn to exercise in ways that don’t hurt—or, if you want to improve your posture and overall fitness without flaring up any existing injuries

Your Workout. Your Massage. Your Choice.

THE MASSAGE-TO-EXERCISE RATIO IS UP TO YOU

Whether you come in tired, sore, or super motivated, we’ll make sure you get exactly what your body needs that day.

Only have the capacity for 15 minutes of exercise? That’s okay! Want a 45-minute clinical movement session that wraps with a massage? Great! The choice is yours, and you don’t have to decide until your appointment starts.

What To Expect Your First Workout

Booking your first appointment can be intimidating. Here’s what we want you to know:

OUR SPACE IS SANITIZED AND WAITING

Our space hits that perfect balance of clean and comforting. We keep it hypoallergenic and sanitized so nothing interferes with your workout, and you feel ready to challenge yourself from the moment you walk through the door.

We set the ropes for you

Prior to your arrival, our staff will help you set the bar for your personal fit. They will adjust the ropes so that you only need to focus on the movements involved in your workout and nothing more. We’ll leave you a sweat towel so that you can dab the sweat off your forehead and carry on with your day.

This is a judgment-free zone

This is your workout! Your comfort is #1. Please do not apologize for getting stinky, showing up sweaty, crying during your session, or wearing sweats to your appointment.

HERE FOR YOU—AS A WHOLE DANG PERSON

Don’t Just Be Seen By Your Therapist. Be Heard, Too.

We already know muscles, bones, and tissues. What we want to learn about is you. We’ll listen and ask the right questions so we understand what’s happening in your body and your life. Then, help you move, function, and feel better.

  • Offer suggestions for maintenance exercises and mental health strategies
  • Listen to your needs and support you thoroughly

Therapeutic Exercise & Pilates FAQs

  • A: Think of Clinical Pilates as a fresh take on classical Pilates, which has been around since the 1920s. When rehabilitation-focused clinicians saw the clinical potential hidden in Pilates, they added in their understanding of anatomy, physiology, injury, and rehabilitation, and intentionally chose the exercises best suited to helping bodies heal. And alas, Clinical Pilates was born!

Clinical Pilates is always done under the watchful eye of a trained clinician. It’s usually done one-on-one or in small groups. And it sometimes uses specialized equipment. So where regular Pilates can help with strengthening, mobility, and alignment in general, Clinical Pilates can take it further—helping you increase ranges of motion in certain joints, reduce pain, and even rehabilitate some injuries.

  • A: Clinical Pilates is super approachable and accessible. It uses slow, low-impact movement—no jumping or thrusting or quick movements that irk old injuries (or sometimes lead to new ones). So as a result, it’s good for most people!

People who want to move better, improve their posture, reduce aches and pains, and have better control over their body during movement love it. But so do athletes who want to maximize their performance by using “new” muscles and moving in ways they don’t usually move.

If you think you’d like Pilates, chances are you will! And if you’re not sure, get in touch with us, and we’ll help you decide.

  • A: Yes. We can help you modify your movements to accommodate your pregnancy right up until your due date.

As long as you feel comfortable with both exercise and massage treatment and don’t have signs or symptoms of a high-risk pregnancy, or if you do have signs and symptoms of a high-risk pregnancy but have been cleared for RMT by your doctor.

Read more on our pregnancy massage page.

  • A: Yes and yes! We currently bill directly to Pacific Blue Cross, Canada Life, Sunlife, Desjardins, Manulife, Industrial Alliance, and ICBC.

  • A: Our schedule is open 3 months ahead to enable you to book the necessary recurring appointments. If there are no appointments available at the time of looking, add yourself to the waitlist and you'll hear from us in an email.
